You’ve never heard of Presencia? Neither had the rest of the United States until about a decade ago. European stitchers have had the pleasure of working with this glorious 100% Egyptian cotton thread line for over 50 years. The company is based in Valencia, Spain. If you’ve never worked with Presencia threads, are you in for a treat! I have worked with numerous brands of perle cotton over the years. This one is by far the best quality thread on the market, as well as the best value. It comes in 10g balls (approximately 30 yards) in both a solid ($2.25/ball) and variegated line ($3.00/ball). Ten grams is double what you get in a skein of the competition. The following excerpt is from an article by Sandy Rodgers in a 2002 issue of NeedlePointers. Although it pertains to using perle cotton for needlepoint, I have no doubt crocheters will also love it. …Frankly, I always thought that perle cotton was perle cotton. But when I used the Finca Perlé Cotton I found a very real difference. The Finca is much smoother than other brands. It seemed to glide through the canvas. The sheen is higher than that of other brands, and that shine lasted longer, too. I even purposely used very long strands, and these lengths should have become dull and warn looking, but they kept their beauty far longer than I expected.
