Stitching on Perforated Paper

I stock blank perforated paper stockings from Tokens and Trifles. These beauties can be worked with the toe pointing either to the right or left, depending on whether or not you want the edging in white or more of an eggshell color. The 18-count stockings are small (approx. 52 x 48 stitches). They’ll work up in one night, and require no finishing, other than adding a hanger of some sort. At only $3.50, they’re the perfect personalizeable package tie-on. Not familiar with perforated paper? It's no different than any other evenweave fabric, albeit more fragile. Stitching on perforated paper was the rage in the Victorian Era. It fell out of favor by the 1920s. It’s coming back, and can be ordered in such shapes as hearts, mittens, and stars. I also stock it in 18-count 8-1/2 x 11 two-sheet packs in several solid colors, as well as stylized two-sheet sets designed by Jim Shore. Something stitched on this makes a perfect addition to scrapbooks! Now in Residence! International Santa Claus ornament kits. The nine-man cast includes such notables as Babbo Natale, Father Christmas, Pere Noel, and Sinter Klaas. Kits contain everything you need to complete one ornament, including embellishments and backing. $6.50. Stitcing Tip! When working on perforated paper, you must complete your "Xs" in two steps – in other words, stitch in rows, going back and forth, as demonstrated in the photo on the left. Since your ground is very stiff, the additional pass gives you the padding you'll need when it’s time to tie off. This technique is also invaluable when stitching on perforated plastic.
